Discrete trial training (DTT)
A structured teaching format in which a skill is broken into small steps, each taught through a clear instruction, a learner response, and a consequence, with trials repeated in short blocks.
Each trial has an identifiable beginning and end, which makes trial-by-trial data collection straightforward, typically recorded as correct, prompted, or incorrect.
DTT is one teaching format among several. Naturalistic and routines-based teaching are frequently used alongside it depending on the skill and the learner.
