Practitioner glossary
Short, plain-language definitions of the terms that come up in behaviour-analytic and neurodivergent-affirming practice. Written to be read by a new RBT, a curious parent, or a clinic owner comparing software.

- Standard Celeration Chart
- A standardised semi-logarithmic chart used in behaviour analysis to display how often a behaviour occurs over time, so that changes in rate are directly comparable across behaviours, learners and settings. Read the definition
- Celeration
- The rate at which a behaviour's frequency changes over time: the slope of the line on a Standard Celeration Chart, usually expressed as a multiply or divide factor per week. Read the definition
- Bounce (variability)
- The spread of data points around the celeration line: how much a behaviour's rate varies from session to session. Read the definition
- Aim star
- A marker placed on a chart showing the target performance rate and the date by which it should be reached. Read the definition
- Phase change
- A marked point on a chart where something about the intervention changed: a new procedure, a different reinforcer, a change of setting or staff. Read the definition
- Frequency vs rate
- Frequency is a raw count of how many times a behaviour occurred; rate is that count divided by the time observed, usually expressed per minute. Read the definition
- Discrete trial training (DTT)
- A structured teaching format in which a skill is broken into small steps, each taught through a clear instruction, a learner response, and a consequence, with trials repeated in short blocks. Read the definition
- Treatment fidelity
- The degree to which an intervention is delivered as it was designed: by the practitioner, by staff, and by the family at home. Read the definition
- Superbill
- An itemised receipt a client submits to their insurer or funding body for reimbursement when the practitioner bills privately rather than billing the payer directly. Read the definition
- MTSS tiers
- A multi-tiered system of supports used in schools, grouping intervention intensity into Tier 1 (universal), Tier 2 (targeted small-group) and Tier 3 (individualised, intensive). Read the definition
