MTSS tiers
A multi-tiered system of supports used in schools, grouping intervention intensity into Tier 1 (universal), Tier 2 (targeted small-group) and Tier 3 (individualised, intensive).
Tiering is about intensity of support, not about labelling a student. A student can move between tiers as their needs change.
Practitioners working with schools often need to describe their work in tier language so that it maps onto the school's existing framework.
