Choosing practice software for a neurodivergent caseload

Six questions worth asking
Work through these before a demo. The answers separate a platform that fits a neurodivergent caseload from one that merely stores appointments.
Does it chart behaviour the way you analyse it?
If you work from rate and celeration, a platform that only stores session notes will push you back into a spreadsheet. Ask whether it produces a Standard Celeration Chart, supports phase-change tags and aim stars, and keeps historical dates on import.
What happens between sessions?
Most of a neurodivergent child's week happens away from you. Ask whether the family has a structured way to log behaviours and wins, and whether that data lands in the client record rather than in your inbox.
Is pricing per practitioner, per learner, or per practice?
Per-learner or per-practitioner pricing can look cheap at first and grow quickly. Work out the cost at the caseload size you expect in a year, not today. Flat practice pricing is easier to budget around as you add clients.
Do you need insurance claim submission?
This is the sharpest dividing line. If you bill payers directly and need claims, ERA and eligibility checks in one place, choose a platform that publishes those features. If you invoice privately or families claim on funding, invoices, statements and superbills are usually enough.
Can you get your data out?
Ask for the export formats before you sign up, not when you leave. Per-client record exports and a full CSV are the minimum.
Who is the software actually for?
General practice platforms serve many disciplines well and will always be broader. Specialist tools go deeper on one job. The right choice is the one that removes the friction you hit most often in a typical week.
