Bounce (variability)

The spread of data points around the celeration line: how much a behaviour's rate varies from session to session.

Bounce is usually described as a ratio between the highest and lowest values in a phase. Tight bounce suggests a stable, predictable performance; wide bounce suggests something in the environment is varying.

A rising trend with very wide bounce is weaker evidence than a slower trend with tight bounce, which is why both are read together rather than trend alone.
